Evaluation Question Three By Elena- May Reading

What have we learned from our Audience feedback?  We used a range of mediums to discover what audiences would think of our products.  We used questionnaires that had open and closed questions, we uploaded our trailer onto youtube and we also posted pictures of our posters and magazine covers online via facebook to gain a larger response and reach more people.

Questioning  We used a range of open and closed questions, this way our open questions were variable and the closed questions gave a definitive answer on what we were asking.  For example we would say: ‘Is this a type of film that would appeal to you?’ and the answers were either ‘yes’ or ‘no’ these are the closed questions.  The type of open questions we would ask were on the lines of ‘is our film easily identifiable to be in the genre of crime and how so?’ These questions all had slightly different answers and makes it more difficult to collate the data however gives us feedback that is more detailed and critical in a positive sense.

Focus Group  We aimed our questions at our media class who were aged between 17 – 19 all from different social standings, all studying different subjects and all with different tastes and had a fair split of male/female proportions.  This was the focus of our interim evaluation, and very helpful in pinpointing out things that we did well and things that needed improving.

Social Media  We used social media to display some of our work, the trailer through Youtube and some of the graphics for the poster and magazine design through Facebook.  This helped us gain a wider audience feedback and also allowed some people who would not have seen our work previously to view it themselves in a different location to the people that we showed our work to in the interim evaluation.

Our feedback  The majority of feedback that we received was good however there were a couple of points of criticism.  Some of the audience felt that the trailer in particular had more of a music video appeal than a trailer for a movie. The reason for this is because what should have been the soundtrack was too dominant, a larger part than it should have been.  Another point that came up was that the trailer made some of the audience feel uncomfortable about the subject of the film – this however is a response that we might have expected because of the nature of the subject of ‘drugs’ it’s not going to appeal to everybody and is considered a ‘challenging’ area to cover.

Improvements  If we were able to modify the trailer and the ancillary products that came with it I would do the following: -  Change the entire soundscape of the trailer as I didn’t think it was very appropriate for the effects that we should have put on the scenes, and reduce the number of party scenes.
