A comparison of toothpastes and other whitening agents By Harrison Moore

* 16 Tiles * 16 Toothbrushes * 7 Toothpastes/other whitening agents * Instant coffee * Masking tape * 1 sharpie * 1 big Tupperware container

* Using tiles as a substitute for teeth, I will test which toothpaste/whitening agent will be most effective.

* I think that Crest 3D White will be the brightest because on the tube it says removes up to 90% of surface stains in 5 days.

* I made instant coffee and let it cool for 3 hours. * As the coffee was cooling I placed 6 tiles in the Tupperware container. * Then I poured the coffee onto the unfinished side of the tiles and let it sit for 24 hours. * I then took the tiles out of the container and let them sit for another 24 hours, to let them dry and stain.

* As the tiles were drying, I took the masking tape, and using the sharpie, I labeled a piece of tape with the name of the whitening agent that I was going to use to clean each tile. * I then stuck a labeled piece of tape to the finished side of each tile. * I then also labeled the toothbrushes with the sharpie so that both the tiles and corresponding toothbrushes were well labeled.

* Then I put a drop of the designated whitening agent for the specific tile on to the designated toothbrush and scrubbed all over the tile for a timed 2 minutes. * I repeated this for all the tiles. 1 tile I left dirty. 1 tile I used only water on. And 1 other tile I used all of the whitening agents on different sections of the tile. * I repeated the procedure for the next two days.

* So far Luster White and Colgate Optic white are the 2 agents that make the tiles the cleanest.
