doc.: IEEE /0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Background In the hot spots of a city, an operator’s WLAN may come across multi-competitor’s WLAN or non-profit WLAN.

doc.: IEEE /0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Problem APs within small distance working in the same channel will cause severe interference to each other. Besides, an AP with higher emission power could also decrease the performance of a neighbor AP working in the same channel. Interference between co-channel APs is one of the major causes to customer complaints.

doc.: IEEE /0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Proposal It is necessary for the operators to find a list of interfering APs in time. This interferer AP list will make it easier and more quickly to –Find the problems and; –Resolve the problems with potential techniques or through negotiations. Especially, when a group of APs is being interfered with the same AP(s), an operator can locate the problem quickly and exactly

doc.: IEEE /0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Proposal Therefore, we suggest each AP report periodically the status of their neighbor APs, including: –MAC address –ESSID or BSSID –RCPI (Received Channel Power Indicator) MAC Address (Index) The MAC address of a neighbor AP ESSID or BSSIDThe ESSID of a neighbor AP, if it has; otherwise, BSSID of a neighbor AP RCPIThe RCPI of a neighbor AP

doc.: IEEE /0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Proposal NMS will collect these information from each APs periodically. To use “RCPI” to tell whether an AP is interfering or not To use “MAC Address” and “ESSID” or “BSSID” to know which organization the AP belongs to It seems that 11v has defined ‘co-located interference report’, but there are no MAC and ESSID/BSSID included. It is inconvenient to locate the original interferer.

doc.: IEEE /0787r2 Submission July 2008 Ruijun Feng, China Mobile Straw Poll Do you think it meaningful to add such kind of measurement and reporting parameters to keep the network more controllable? -Yes -No -Don ’ t know
