31/08/ /08/2011 Richmond Crime Assessment

31/08/2011 Tactical Problem – Shed Burglary & Bike Theft Inference – Unknown offender/s are continuing to target the Hampton Wick/Teddington areas at night on the weekends to steal pedal cycles because it is a target rich environment Context – Theft of push bikes continues to be a problem in the Teddington area with suspect/s climbing fences or entering via the side access taking bikes left in the open or breaking into sheds. Offences occur mainly at the weekends between hours The last two weekends saw offences along neighbouring venues with several bikes stolen at a single time suggesting suspects have a vehicle to transport the bikes away. Recommendations – Explore shed alarms as a crime prevention tool Taskings and Impact – The area was covered by patrols. There has been a slight reduction in offences in the last two weeks, but not a significant one and offences have continued to take place across the area.

31/08/2011 Inference - Motor vehicles are still being broken into on roads either side of Castelnau and down by Barnes Green by various suspects looking to steal items left inside Context – Barnes continues to be priority location for Theft from Motor Vehicle offences. 2 arrested on 22/08/2011 after 3 vehicles were entered. Offences however continued after their arrest. Methods used are mix of opening insecure vehicles overnight (as above arrest) and smashing windows during daytime hours. Sat Navs and Handbags are favoured items to steal. Tactical Problem – Theft From Motor Vehicle in Barnes Taskings and Impact – The area has continued to be subject to patrols but the impact on offences has been limited. Offences have been spread in both location and time making effective patrolling difficult.

31/08/2011 Tactical Problem - Residential Burglary Inference – Different offenders continue to commit daytime burglaries in the Kew and North Sheen areas. Context – Kew continues to be a priority location with some offences having links to burglaries in the Sheen area. Offenders are using tools left in sheds/gardens to force rear entry points. They then carry out a full search, sometimes including the loft and targeting jewellery. Victims of these offences are often away and this series may stop with the end of the holiday period. There have also been further offences linked to 2 suspects on motorbikes in this area, with further offences in Hounslow and Kingston identified and possible connections to Kensington as well. Offences are mainly during the day hours Tasking and Impact – Both the Kew and Upper Richmond Road West areas have been subject to patrols but they have had no significant impact on the burglary levels in this area to date.
