It contains a startling sweep of altitudes and ecological zones in a small area, from the ice-capped 6,271 ms. (20,575 ft.) summit of Salcantay down through layers of high grassland and diverse cloud-forest habitats, to below 1,725 ms. (5,660 ft.) at the confluence of the Aobamba and Urubamba Rivers.

Tools and Weapons The more primitive North- American Indians also used copper for tools, weapons, ornaments and amulets. The copper was probably native copper which was abundant around the shores of Lake Superior, and with the general increase in archaeological excavations in recent years, a number of valuable examples have been discovered - mainly in burial mounds.

History Around the year 1200 A.D. my ancestors, the Incas, came down from high in the Andes mountains to conquer the scattered tribes throughout the South American continent. They imposed their rule, their highly organized form of government and their spirituality on the weaker, less organized people of what is now Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and parts of Chile and Argentina.

Homes of the Incas The Incas were one of the last great civilizations to live in South America. The civilization started in about 1200 A.D. and ended in about 1530 A.D. when the Spaniards arrived. The Inca Empire stretched from Ecuador to Chile or about 2,500- 3,000 miles.

What the Incas Looked Like The emperor has long hair and wears a big hat all of the time to prove he is the emperor and always wearing a robe
