Health Services Research SIG October 2010 – September 2011 Newly established SIG (no previous WHI focus on health services research or claims data) About 45 members initially expressed interest, about 4-5 new members joined Monthly calls are attended by about core members 3 working groups established to focus on more specific topics, also meet monthly: – Cardiovascular disease & diabetes – Cancer – Bone/Joint/Immunology Small group dedicated to implementation issues (Project Office, SIG chair, SIG co-chair, OAC Chair and CCC), meets 1- 2x per month

Initial Focus of SIG Bringing together researchers with knowledge of WHI’s more traditional lines of research and researchers with health services research background/ CMS experience Clarifying data sources and availability (updating data to 2010 and Part D requests in process) Training of WHI statistical analysts to work with CMS data Establishing procedures and timeline for analytical access to data from outside CCC that protects WHI participants’ privacy (data enclave)
