Biography Saul Leiter was born in Pittsburgh on Dec. 3, Leiter passed November 26, 2013 at age 89 Mid-1940s after studying for the rabbinate at a Cleveland seminary, Saul left without graduating and moved to New York to be a painter While in Manhattan, he worked with Richard Pousette-Dart, an abstract expressionist painter who encouraged Leiter to explore photography
