Podcasting The Basics

The How To! Requirements –Microphone Blue Tooth Headset USB Headset Built in Mic –Laptop/computer –Software Audacity Lame File –An Open Mind

Step 1 - Software Download Audacity Download Lame File (to convert to mp3!) rceforge.net/ rceforge.net/ o.com.ar/ o.com.ar/

Step 2 - Hardware Grab a microphone Plug it in Check the Hardware Settings Start-Control Panel – Hardware and Sound – Manage Audio Devices Select Recording Device Select the Microphone you want Apply and OK

Step 3 – Software Setup Open Audacity Check Playback Output and Recording Input Edit-Preferences – Audio I/O Select your sound choice Select your recording choice

Step 4 – Capturing Voice Hit Record Off you go: –Lesson as normal –Prompt students to verbalise their thoughts –Explanation –Revision pointers –Whatever you want to use it for

Step 5 - Editing Listen Through The Basics: –Stop/Play – Space Bar –Select – Shift and Click –Delete – Del –Cut out – Ctrl X –Paste – Ctrl V –Time Shift Tool

Step 6 – Sound Effects and Backing Music Download the sound effects and backing music from Creative commons and copyright free sites Project – Import Audio – Select the File - Open

Select the section of sound you wish to add an effect to Effect – Pick One!! Best to just play around and find what works for you. Step 7 – Special Effects

Step 8 – Export to Mp3 Export the file to Mp3 format File – Export as MP3 Name the files and Save The first time it will ask you to locate the Lame File

Step 9 – Upload to the Web You upload this file to the internet just the same way you do any other file. –Wikispaces –Posterous –intranet Students then download it and play it either off their computer or on their iPods!
