Make sure you: RESTATE: Restate question fully to begin your answer and mention passage name. ANSWER: Make sure you understand and address ALL parts of the question. Many questions are multi-task such as “Compare and contrast.” CITE: Provide relevant evidence in the form of direct quotes and paraphrasing. – Use necessary signal words for text references (The passage describes…). – Use quotation marks for direct quotes. EXPLAIN: Explain how evidence supports your answers. Draw conclusions for the reader.

TDA Speech Steps Read the lyrics closely and repeatedly until you are sure that you have a deep understanding. Annotate, underlining evidence and labelling it. Complete the graphic organizer using as few words as possible. Don’t bother writing entire quotes. Complete the final copy (note cards or paper) Review the final copy (it will be collected) Practice your speech to make sure that you can deliver it clearly with an appropriate volume.
