Brief History of Lacrosse in NYC Lacrosse’s deepest history dates back to the Native Americans of the 1100’s. Was first documented by Jesuit European settlers in the 1700’s. In the 1870’s Canadian immigrants established clubs in the NYC area, with 4 teams regularly squaring off in the late 1870’s (Ravenswood, NYU, NY Lacrosse Club and Prospect Park). Many NYC high schools and colleges continue to play today.(JUST ASK)
Growth Lacrosse is the “Fastest Sport on Two Feet” It is also the Fastest Growing Sport. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport at the youth level, with over a 300% participation increase in the last 15 years. Over the past 5 years, 551 high schools have added lacrosse programs for boys and 556 high schools added a girls program. Including many local high schools. (not a complete list- JUST ASK) Boys and Girls: Xaverian, Archbishop Molloy, Poly Prep, Scholars Academy Girls: The Mary Louis Academy, Bishop Kearney, St. Edmund, Sacred Heart Academy Boys: Xavier In 2014, 39 colleges added lacrosse as a Varsity program.
Boys Lacrosse and Girls Lacrosse Similarities Differences Stick: Both use a Stick known as a stick, but technically a “Cross” (pocket is a difference) Goals: Both use a 6 foot by 6 foot goal. Mouth Pieces: Both require mouthpieces. Rules/Tactics Field Layout Equipment: Boys: (controlled checking and contact allowed) Helmet Shoulder pads Elbow pads Gloves Stick- does have a pocket Girls: (no contact allowed) Goggles Stick- does not have a pocket

LCR’s 2016 Spring Season Spring 2016: Clinics for (1st and 2nd grade) April – June 20th Wednesday: Nights 5-7pm Sunday: Mornings sometime between 8am-4pm (clinics and practices will be done before noon). Practices and home contests will be at Fort Tilden Clinics for (1st and 2nd grade) Approximately 10-12 Sunday morning sessions. Teams for (3rd and 4th grades), (5th and 6th), (7th and 8th) Approximately 14 practices and 6 contest.
LCR Coaching Staff Mickey Blum- grew up in Rockaway, played at Garden City HS and University of Notre Dame, coached High School the past 7 seasons. Andrew Sheridan- Lives in Rockaway with wife and 4 children, played lax at Midwood High School & Marist College also FDNY Lax team, Coached Lax at Rutgers summer camps. John Delaney- grew up playing on long island, lives in Rockaway. Played and coached at Pace University. Pat Lane- grew up playing lacrosse and hockey on long island. Played at Chaminade High School, and Div III lacrosse at Maritime College. Coached youth lacrosse and hockey. Patrick currently lives in Stuyvesant Town, NYC with his son Conor and wife Mary (Egan) Lane. Volunteers needed- no experience necessary Colleen Hickey- Lives in Roxbury. Played at Farmingdale H.S. on LI, and Marist College. Teacher/Coach at East Meadow H.S. Helped start a Dallas Public Schools H.S. girls lax team when living in Texas -East Meadow H.S.: JV Basketball coach for 5 years, JV and Head Varsity lax coach for the past 10 years Ralph Bianco- Live in BP, wife & two daughters. Grew up LI played all through HS, college and club as an adult. Coached for Bay Shore Youth Lacrosse (LI) last three years and have been a Blessed Trinity CYO soccer coach for past eight. Tricia Davey: Lives in Breezy Point with her husband and four children. Blessed Trinity CYO soccer coach for last eight seasons, B.T. volleyball coach last four years.
