Warm-Up 9/24/14 1) Please put your Nutrient paper into the basket. 2) Continue on Pre-Lab questions from yesterday. Pre-Lab Questions 1)What is the purpose of the lab? 2)What is the chemical name of vitamin C? 3)Why is vitamin C important to have in your diet?

Objective 9/24/14 Discuss how to determine the amount of Vitamin C in a tablet. Agenda 9/24/14 Finish Pre-Lab Questions

Pre-Lab Questions 4) What is the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C? 5) What chemicals are we using in this lab? 6) What types of chemical reactions are going to occur in this lab? 7) What color will indicate that all the vitamin C in the sample has been consumed?

Pre-Lab Questions 1)What is the purpose of the lab? 2)What is the chemical name of vitamin C?

Pre-Lab Questions 3) Why is vitamin C important to have in your diet?

Pre-Lab Questions 4) What is the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C?

Pre-Lab Questions 5) What chemicals are we using in this lab? Iodide ion (I - )  potassium iodide (KI) solution Starch Iodate ion (IO 3 - )  0.05 M potassium iodate (KIO 3 ) solution Ascorbic acid (vitamin C)  C 6 H 8 O 6

Pre-Lab Questions 6) What types of chemical reactions are going to occur in this lab? 1: Iodate ion reacts with iodide ion to form iodine. 2: Iodine reacts with vitamin C. 3: No more vitamin C  iodine reacts with starch.

Pre-Lab Questions 1: Iodate ion reacts with iodide ion to form iodine. IO I -  I 2 2: Iodine reacts with vitamin C. I 2 + C 6 H 8 O 6 3: No more vitamin C  iodine reacts with starch. I 2 + starch

Pre-Lab Questions 7) What color will indicate that all the vitamin C in the sample has been consumed?

Vitamin C Titration Lab 1) Form a group of three or four. 2) Read procedure for part A only. 3) Reword procedure so that you know exactly what you and your lab group will be doing during the lab. This will be turned into Ms. Au-Yeung by the end of class. 4)With your lab group, determine what two types of a liquid you would like to test (ex. fresh vs. frozen orange juice). You will be responsible for bringing these samples in.

Timeline for Project Next Friday, 10/3/14 Presentation due HAVE A FABULOUS REST OF THE WEEK AND WEEKEND!
