Graduation Credits Check your schedules and transcripts to make sure you have the necessary classes to graduate. Are the classes the ones you need for a UC/CSU? Have you completed your visual performing art requirement? Do you have at least 4 college prep courses this year? Remember you must earn a C or better for college eligibility and a D or better to earn graduation credit.

Military Army Air Force Navy Marines Recruiters will be on campus throughout the school year to answer questions and provide information about programs and scholarships.

Community College No specific course requirements must be met prior to entrance.  SAT/ACT tests are not required. Any student may enroll at a community college if they meet the following:  18 years of age OR  Earned a high school diploma OR earned the equivalency of a high school diploma (i.e. GED, CHSPE) Cuesta College applications will be available in the spring. More info to come later.

Private/Out of State Colleges Admission requirements vary by institution, some similar to the A-G requirements. Students should check individual campuses to determine admission requirements and deadlines. Many campuses use the Common Application.  Letters of Recommendation may be required. Upcoming Test Dates  Oct. 24- Register by Sept. 18  Dec. 12- Register by Nov. 6 Exam covers 5 areas:  English Grammar  Math (up to Trigonometry)  Reading Comprehension  Science Reasoning  Writing (optional, but required by most schools) College Admission Exams Please note that some school may not accept scores from December test date.

Requesting Letters of Recommendation Students needing a letter of recommendation will be required to complete a Senior Profile. The senior profile form can be downloaded from the school website under counseling. They are also available in the Counseling Office. Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks notice for letters of recommendation.

College Representatives Visit College representatives will be on campus at various times throughout the year. Listen closely to the bulletin for dates or check regularly in the counseling office. Remember, this is a great opportunity to make connections and perhaps even speak with the person who may be reading your application. Don’t miss out on these invaluable opportunities!

Financial Aid Visit to download FAFSA formwww.fafsa.gov Forms available January 1, 2016 FAFSA must be submitted by March 1, 2016 Parents should plan to have their tax return completed early in January. Scholarship applications received in our office will be advertised on a Scholarship Notice, posted in all senior English classes, the counseling bulletin board and on the webpage. Some private schools may request the CSS Profile, which is similar to FAFSA, but charges a fee.

Prospective College Athletes Don’t forget to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center  Ensure you are meeting the NCAA course requirements. See Ms. Josephs to request a transcript for the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Citizenship Reminders Did you know…  Your behavior throughout your senior year will determine your eligibility for graduation.  Any senior who is suspended 4 or 5 days for a single offense within the fourth quarter will lose all eligibility to participate in senior activities, including the graduation ceremony.  The AHS administration reserves the right to exclude a student from the graduation ceremony and related activities for a flagrant infraction of the schools disciplinary code, irrespective of the student’s citizenship status.  Any senior using or possessing alcohol or illegal drugs as referred to in the Health and Safety code, Chapter II, Section 11053, Division 10, including steroids, at any school sponsored activity will lose the privilege of marching at graduation.

Attendance Remember that participating in graduation is also dependent on attendance eligibility. Check your attendance regularly on Aeries and make sure you check in the attendance office if you receive any notices from them.

Senior Pictures All seniors should have had their pictures taken by now. A standard vertical wallet print (2.5 x 3.5) or digital photo (recommended) is due to the yearbook staff by Friday, October 2, Check with your photographer to make sure they are aware of this date.
