Elderly care in Sweden

Future challange Life expenctancy in Sweden is among the highest in the world. In 2013, it was 83,7 years for women and 80,1 years for men. Sweden has the second largest proportion of people aged 80 or over among the EU member states.

Financed by municipalities Most of the elderly is financed by the municipalities. Elderly care accounts for about a fifth of the municipalities overall cost burden.

The Swedish pension system All Swedish citizens are entitled to a pension after they retire by the ages between 61 and 67. From 2005 to 2011, the number of working Swedes aged 65–74 increased by 49 per cent. National retirement pension on 11,428 sek per month based on the income on which they have paid tax.
