PROPOSED CABIN LAYOUT INSTRUMENTS INTEGRATION Michael Soulage 5/23/12

 Mission scheduled for late 2013 above the Bay of Monterey Bay  Instruments: ◦ Sunphotometer (AATS-14) ◦ 3x Ames Radiometers ◦ JPL PRISM Radiometer  Aircraft: ◦ Twin Otter

 Sunphotometer ◦ Pointing zenith ◦ Mass: 120lbs  JPL PRISM Radiometer ◦ Field of view: 33.1° ◦ Calibration: An integrated sphere needs to fit below the instrument for pre- flight calibration ◦ Mass estimate: 80lbs (instrument only)

 Ames Radiometers: ◦ Irradiance radiometer:  Pointing zenith  Field of view: 180°  Mounting accuracy required: +/-2.5°  Mass: 3.25lbs ◦ Radiance radiometers  1x pointing 40° from zenith  1x pointing 40° from nadir  Field of view: 2.5° each  Mounting accuracy required: +/-2.5°  Mass: 3.5lbs each

Control rack for PRISM in the baggage area PRISM Instrument Ames radiance radiometer pointing 40° from nadir Sunphotometer Operator remote desktop Sunphotometer instrument PRISM operator Top half of the single rack dedicated to Ames radiometers and sunphotometer subsystems Bottom half of the single rack: PRISM operator subsystems Ames radiometers operator CIRSPAS rack

 PRISM control rack will be placed in the baggage area

 A single bay rack will be used in the cabin: ◦ Bottom half will be used for the PRISM Operator rack and will contain the following ◦ Top half will contain:  Sunphotometer laptop (controlled remotely from the aircraft operator station)  Sunphotometer’s breakers  Ames radiometer deck box installed on the existing shelf used during the COAST Mission  Ames radiometer laptop integrated in a new stowed/deployed laptop shelf  Ames Power Strip

 Use of the existing Fairing as well as the existing Fairing Mount which have flown on the COAST Mission for 1x Radiance and 1x Irradiance radiometer + GPS antenna (needed for the PRISM instrument)

 Use of some existing parts from the Nadir mount which has flown during the COAST Mission for 1x Radiance Ames radiometer  New mounting plate needed as well as 4x small U brackets

 Use of the same rack which has flown on the COAST Mission.  No design or hardware needed

 PRISM will be delivered by JPL on its own interface plate as shown on the photograph  Two R/A brackets will be designed to support the instrument and will be secured down on the cargo rails

Ames radiometer PRISM Instrument Fields of view of both instruments

The integrated sphere will be inserted from below the aircraft inside the nadir port. Sufficient room below the PRISM instrument and next to the Ames Radiance radiometer is available to do the pre-flight calibration without the need to move or remove the two instruments
