1 12/15/ DIVERSITYtools for Satenv

Presentation of tools 1. Antenna correlation tool passive measurement calculates the correlation between two complex antenna patterns 2. Cumulative distribution tool Active measurement of a device with diversity function Calculates the Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF) of measured data Compare how this CDF is evolving when diversity is switched off and then switched on

3 12/15/ Antenna correlation tool

4Procedure Connect cable to antenna 1 and measure in Satenv node of measurement 1 is created Connect cable to antenna 2 and measure in Satenv node of measurement 2 is created Run macro to calculate the envelope correlation coefficient a correlation node is created in Satenv

Correlation formulas Correlation function between two antenna radiation pattern Envelope correlation coefficient

Macro interface Node 1 Node 2 Correlation parameters XPR Phi distribution Theta distribution Press start button to create the coreelation function node in Satenv

Correlation parameters Caracterize the antenna environment Library included XPR is related to the polarization Phi distribution and Theta distribution are related to the antenna pattern

Plot of envelope correlation coefficient Vs frequency Computed coefficient can be viewed as asymptotic performances a multiple antenna system may achieve compared to a single antenna system. The more the antennas of the system are correlated, the less diverse information they provide.

9 12/15/ Cumulative distribution tool

10Procedure Measure TIS with diversity OFF EIS data node 1 is created Measure TIS with diversity On EIS data node 2 is created Run macro to calculate CDF functions A CDF node is created in Satenv compare the 2 CDF function to quantify the diversity gain

Macro interface Node 1, Node 2 Layer (Etotal) Possibility to calculate the CDF for different frequencies Press go to calculate

Plot CDF in Satenv CDF node is created in Satenv Plot of the CDF function Number of EIS  values less than a given threshold Diversity On Diversity Off
