PPN Plenary Meeting 11 th September 2015 Dungarvan Social Inclusion & Community Activation Programme (SICAP)

Waterford Area Partnership Ltd is contracted to Waterford Local Community Development Committee to deliver the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme in Waterford City & County. Duration of the contract is April 2015 to December 2017

Waterford Area Partnership Ltd was incorporated in June 1996 with Charitable Status. A voluntary board is elected with representatives from Statutory Sector Community and Voluntary Environment Social Partners

Our Mission Statement: “By working in partnership and through consultation, to make a positive impact on the quality of life of the long-term unemployed, and the socially and economically excluded in Waterford”.

Defined set of Programme Beneficiaries DISADVANTAGED AREAS 50 % of Individuals and Local Community Groups supported by SICAP must reside in areas as defined by POBAL Deprivation Index Disadvantaged Very Disadvantaged Extremely Disadvantaged

How can you and your community benefit from SICAP?

SICAP works with and supports local community groups and individuals through Empowering Local Communities Education & Lifelong Learning Employment & Enterprise

Empowering Local Communities Staff can meet with Local community groups to Support with organisational development, grant applications, policy etc. Information on local developments and events Support the group to develop their actions and programmes

Support groups to engage with local, regional and national decision making structures e.g. PPN Training programme delivered e.g. Governance Code, Committee Skills etc. Developing collaborations between local communities and state agecnies to progress initiatives e.g. Lone Parents

Education & Lifelong Learning Staff/Mentors will meet with individuals to discuss educational opportunities and accredited/unaccredited courses Information provided on education supports and funding Information sessions organised on pathways/funding etc.

Staff work with a)Schools in developing initiatives e.g. Breakfast & Homework Clubs, Study Skills Workshops, literacy supports etc. b)Community groups in organising after school supports, English language courses, soft skills programmes etc. c)Youth programmes focussed on access for young people with disabilities, youth development

Employment & Enterprise Staff can meet with individuals to support through Employment Focused Initiatives e.g. Career Guidance & Information, Pre-Employment Courses, Work Placements etc. Youth Training & Enterprise supports through Career Guidance, Soft Skills Programme, Youth Entrepreneurship Programme

Enterprise Mentors provide support developing business plans and accessing grants Social Enterprises with local communities Micro Business Network Education and Training Networks to support collaborative approaches and develop effective referral systems
