Installation of new standard-sized tub, toilet, and solid-surface vanity counter with integral double sink. Installation of new lighting, faucets, and mirrored medicine cabinet. Installation of ceramic tile floor and walls in tub/shower area, with vinyl wallpaper elsewhere.

Bathroom remodeling is expected to reach $39.2 billion in 2007, up 10.2% from 2006 (Kitchen & Bath Business, January 2007). Over the past five years, bath remodeling spending has more than doubled, and the number of bath remodeling jobs has grown by 25%.

 1 of 3 adults over the age of 65 experience a fall each year and half of those will fall more than once  Falls are the leading cause of death by accidental injury among people who are older than 65.  A senior falls every 21 seconds. That's 1.5 million falls a year  87% of all fractures in people 65 and older are caused by falls  Falls are the most common cause of hospital admissions for trauma among older Americans.

 The average health-care cost of a fall injury involving a person 72 or older was $19,440 in  It is estimated that falls cost the health system $2.4 billion per year. Comparatively, motor vehicle accidents cost $345 million per year  The direct and indirect costs of fall injuries are expected to reach $43.8 billion a year by 2020.

Most household accidents happen in the bathroom. This is even truer for the elderly. But there are things you can do to make the bathroom safer for the elderly.bathroom First, buy a rubber mat for the shower or bathtub floor. Some come with suction cups on the bottom of the mat to hold it securely to the floor. You may also want to install a wall grab bar.install Another safety item is large faucet handles.faucet

One of the main benefits of owning your own walk in tub is having the freedom and security of being able to get in and out of your tub without assistance. Walk-in tubs are generally safer, more convenient and more comfortable than a standard bathtub. This is why they are so helpful to seniors/elderly, handicapped/disable d individuals.
