History of the museum Horehronie Musem in Brezno belongs to the youngest museums in Slovakia, it collected a number of material, written and picture documents – ethnographic, historical and literary – characterizing in its collection the history and culture of Horehronie. The museum was founded in 1960 as a national history museum of the Brezno district. Museum is located in the building of the old town hall at the same time with opening of the first exposition (photo). Today, the collection includes more than objects and plenty of documentation.

Ethnographical exposition Life and culture in the middle of Slovakia The museum is located in the building of the historical town hall on the main square of Brezno. It was built in 1770 as a reconstruction of the older, renaissance building.

Historical exposure Brezno – from the beginning until now Burghers' house No.13 on the main square stands on the plot of the former two individual ground floor houses from the first half of the 16th century and its construction development is characteristic for the most of the houses on the square. Together with a fragment of the text above the window mouldings these are the only palaeographical sights of its kind in the town. Today there is a historical exposition called “Brezno in changes of time” installed in the house.
