Featured Speakers for Lone Star Cy Fair Career Day 2015

Michael Harris Human Resources Director at Texas Star, and originally from Los Angeles, California. He received his B.A in Business Management with a minor in Finance. During his 10 years at Texas Star he worked closely with Hire Houston, a program dedicated to promoting education and teaches job seeking skills needed in today’s workforce. His initiative sparked great interest and his company hosts a training course once a month in the greater Houston Area. As Human Resources Director, he has appeared in numerous online publications, and on all of the major news outlets. When Michael is not working, or leading workshops, he enjoys running, swimming, and spending time with his children.

Michael Harris Apart from speaking engagements Michael Harris is a devoted father of three and loves to spend time with others who have the same passion and work ethic as he does. Due to his hands on approach in his field, he is able to come up with new ideas and concepts to make it a productive atmosphere rather than a stress minded work area. His theory is, “If you enjoy doing what you do, you shouldn’t call it work.”

He found out quickly that with many valleys in life there are just as many peaks. He found out with hard work and determination he too could attend the college of his choice. This is the experience he talks about and passes on to others.

Sara Gomez A native of Mexico City and has lived in Houston, TX since Since 2003, Sara has been District Management for a City Outreach and is responsible for the initiative to keep citizens informed and educated. Her bi-cultural background and focus on community collaboration has led to a number of volunteer opportunities and community leadership roles. Sara received her Bachelor of Science in Communication at Sam Houston State University and a Masters in Business Management. In her spare time, Sara enjoys baking, karaoke, and bike riding.

Sara Gomez Sara Gomez was taking on-line courses from a local community college in the states and was able to obtain her associates degree, which helped her obtain her bachelor of science from Sam Houston State University. She was able to take advantage of this because her husband Jose works for Nike as the South American Marketing representative. With the job came opportunities to relocate to Houston, Texas. Sara was well prepared learning English while residing in Mexico and put her new language skills to work in school and in her new job. She didn’t stop there. She loves to volunteer her time to help educate others about getting a good education and how to apply for scholarships. Because with a good education it’s the key to opening new doors.
