Muscles of the arm and forelimb

 Deltoid muscle in humans  Action:  Abducts the shoulder  Origin:  Clavicle and scapula  Insertion:  Deltoid tuberosity of humerus

 Action:  Flexion at the elbow  Origin: lateral epicondyle of the humerus  Insertion: Styloid process of the radius

 Action:  Extension and abduction at wrist  Origin:  Distal lateral surface and lateral epicondyle of humerus  Insertion:  Bases of second and third metacarpal bones

 Action:  Flexion at the finger joints and wrist  Origin:  Medial epicondyle of humerus, anterior surface of the radius and ulna, medial and posterior surface of ulna  Insertion:  Distal phalanges

 Action:  pronation  Origin:  Medial epicondyle of humerus and coronoid process of ulna  Insertion:  Distal lateral surface of the radius

 Action:  Flexion and abduction at wrist  Origin:  Medial epicondyle of humerus  Insertion:  Bases of second and third metacarpals

 Action:  Flexion at wrist  Origin:  Medial epicondyle of humerus  Insertion:  Tendinous sheet on the palm (aponeurosis)

 Action:  Flexion and adduction at the wrist  Origin:  Medial epicondyle of humerus  Insertion:  Pisiform, hamate and base of 5 th metacarpal

 Action:  Extends the forelimb  Origin:  Latissimus dorsi  Insertion:  ulna

 Action:  Extension at the elbow  Origin:  Superior, posterior and lateral margins of the humerus and scapula  Insertion:  Olecranon process of ulna

 Action:  Flexion and supination at the shoulder  Origin:  Short head- corocoid process  Long head- supraglenoid tubercle  Insertion:  Tuberosity of the radius
