Ms. Pitt November Newsletter Grade 2 Math Geometric Patterns -Students will need to be able to create and extend a growing and shrinking geometric pattern -Students will need to be able to identify the changing attributes in a pattern -Students will need to be able to create a pattern where all 4 attributes change -Students will need to be able to identify the core of a pattern November News If you have not signed up for Remind or SeeSaw, I really encourage you to do so. I use Remind to send information home about upcoming class news and to update you on our weekly spelling/writing words. SeeSaw is used as an online journal for parents to be able to see work that isn’t able to be sent home immediately, or pictures of class activities/work that happen throughout the day. Please make sure that you check the agendas every night (both the front pocket for notes/forms that need to be signed and the actual day for a note from me). Reading folders are due at the end of each week (Friday, unless there is a PD day and then please send them in on the Thursday). Please make sure the reading logs are signed and filled out. A big thank you to the parents who have been reading with their child nightly and filling out the forms! Ms. Pitt Woodman School (519) Upcoming Dates : Nov. 6: Movie Night 6 PM Nov. 9: Opera Performance (at School) Nov. 13: PD Day Reading For reading we have been working on identifying and understanding elements of text (both fiction and non- fiction). Students are working on understanding what the different elements mean in a fiction story (main characters, setting, problem, solution), identifying them in a story and using proof from the story to explain their thinking. In a non-fiction text, students are looking at the different elements that are commonly found in these texts, what they are each used for and how to identify them within the text. See SeeSaw for the success criteria. Writing In writing, we have 5 weekly words that we make sentences with daily. This is where the majority of our writing will come from for the next little while. When doing this, students work with me in guided writing groups where we work on things such as: proper punctuation, grammar rules, adding appropriate detail, printing properly, making sure sentences make sense, using classroom resources for spelling, etc. The writing program strengthens student’s writing abilities and carries over into all other subject areas. Practicing writing at home is an excellent way to improve your child’s writing confidence and ability. Grade 1 Math Geometric Patterns -Students will need to be able to create and extend a geometric repeating pattern --Students will need to be able to identify the core of a pattern --Students will need to be able to label their pattern (or a pattern given to them) using letters (AB, ABCC) --Students will need to be able to identify the changing attributes in a pattern --Students will need to be able to create a pattern where at least 2 attributes change --
