The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) was created in October 2005 as an independent institution out of the former Department of Statistics in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN) and the National Service of Census.

- CountryData is a new data platform developped by UNSD to showcase national data for development indicators collected through SDMX registries. - The data are compared to development indicators produced by international agencies. Any discrepancies are detected, analysed and categorized. - Data in country data platform can be viewed as tables and charts and can be downloaded for further analysis.

After the installation and a training to NISR staff, the Data Portal was launched in May 2013

More Innovations

Data Vizualization Team under Innovations Team Control  Setted up an advisory body on data visualization: Drawn from public sphere (outside NISR), a group of multi-talented personnel active in data visualization domain to advise on matters related to data visualizations and infographics.  Tapped into the pool of students who have participated in the previous infographics competitions.  Involved the journalists earlier trained by NISR on data access through NISR data portals and data journalism.  Organize regular workshops and trainings for NISR staff (including other stakeholders, on data vizualization  The NISR DVT works with selected students to prepare visualizations on an ongoing basis.  The students receive recognition in return of their work, which is helpful for them to win gain full employment later.  Also, students and journalists are trained on a regular basis – binding the appetite and capacity around the skill set.

Wayforward AfDB to work with IMF to customize the tool to be compliant with SDMX to be able to exchange economic data to IMF easily. Customize the data portal to have the same functionalities with devinfo for easy updating. UpdatingVisibility Suggestion Work with the Bank and Prognoz to produce advocacy materials (leaflets, pull up banners, T- shirts, caps, mouse pads, posters, calendars, to be distributed for wider awareness Be able to independently update the database after receiving the training by the AfDB
