To what extent were Mao’s Domestic Policies a Success? L/O – To evaluate the successes and failures of Mao’s domestic policies

Building a New World Mao believed that he could turn China into a world superpower by enforcing his Chinese version of Marxism – Maoism. However his ideological commitments and inflexibility actually made his domestic aims of a strong and stable China difficult to achieve. Whilst he had huge success in reshaping the culture and lives of many Chinese people, his economic policies were huge failures and were eventually reversed by Deng Xiaoping after 1979.

Your Task Each of you will research a different area of Mao’s domestic policies. You will each produce a presentation and workbook on your area. Each project needs to address the following: What were the aims of Mao’s policy? What successes did Mao have in this area? What failures did Mao have in this area? Presentations should be 5-10mins. A workbook of notes of 3-4 pages also needs to be included. Consider using pictures, videos, songs and diagrams. What were Mao’s policies towards… 1.The position of women 2.Religion 3.Agriculture 4.Education, Healthcare and Young People 5.Crime and Prison Camps 6.Arts and Culture 7.Industry
