Program of Study For students who hold teacher certification:  SLIS 701, 702, 703, 705, 706, & 707  SLIS 756 and 757 (materials selection)  SLIS 742 (curricular role)  SLIS 761 (technology)  Portfolio-in-Progress

Capstone Courses With advisor approval!  SLIS 720 (program development)  SLIS 794 (internship = 3 credit hours)

The Internship is an opportunity to… Demonstrate/practice competencies acquired during your preparation program. Work under the supervision of a certified, experienced, & highly qualified school librarian.

The Internship is your opportunity to… …gain experience in the world of practice, …take risks in a supportive environment, …learn from successes & challenges, …take charge of your own learning.

The Internship consists of…hands-on activities and objectives under direct supervision.

The Internship includes... …visits to other school libraries to interview practicing school librarians. …attendance at a state-level professional conference (SCASL, EdTech, or one in your home state), or a national conference (e.g., AASL).

Internship Locations K-12 schools by placement of the faculty supervisor, Gerry Solomon. Note: Interns are not placed in schools where they are currently or were previously employed; in schools your children attend/have attended. Note: Placements for internships are discussed ahead of time with each candidate.

Applying for an Internship Fall - apply by March 1. Spring - apply by October 1. (Internship Applications at: acket.pdf acket.pdf Note: Plan ahead for your internship.

TB Test Requirement: Documentation of negative TB test within previous year of internship; Submitted to Student Services before start of internship.

Internships for Initial Certification Required: two 3-hour internships in separate semesters Note: Each internship requires a separate internship application.

Advice... Be realistic about what you can manage. Be flexible about your POS. Pay attention to deadlines. Check in with you advisor periodically.
