Adolf Hitler was born in Austria in 1889 He moved to Vienna as a young man where he lived in poverty He was refused entry to art college Hitler developed a hatred of the Jews while living in Vienna

When World War 1 broke out Hitler joined the German Army He quickly rose to the rank of corporal. He fought very bravely and won an Iron Cross First Class Hitler was angry when Germany surrendered to the allies.

The Treaty of Versailles Main Terms  War Guilt Clause  Germany had to pay reparations  Lost territory to France and Poland  Rhineland demilitarised  German army limited to 100,000 men. Not allowed an airforce

Hitler joined the Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party. He soon became the leader. In 1923 the Nazi party tried to seize power with the “Munich Putsch”. The coup failed. Hitler was arrested and imprisoned. While in prison he set out his political ideas in his book “Mein Kampf”
