Interior Painting How to paint like a pro.
Step 1: Preparation Remove as many items from room as possible Cover any remaining furniture & floors Remove wallpaper if present Scrape, sand, patch and repair any scratch, dent or hole Clean walls that are dirty Prime new walls (or if going from dark paint color to light)
Step 2: Have the Right Tools Brushes for trim Roller frame & roller pad for large wall areas Ladder (or extension pole) Paint tray or paint grid
Step 3: Prepare the Paint Remix paint! Carefully pour into tray Do NOT load the brush with too much paint
Step 4: Painting Around the Trim Brush paint onto the wall first and not the tape When there is just a little paint left, paint next to the tape Overlap slightly onto the tape You do NOT want the paint to seep under the tape
Step 5: Painting with Roller Roll in small, manageable areas (3 foot by 3 foot) Work from ceiling to floor and one side of the wall to the other Blend sections as you go
Step 5: Painting with Roller Roll back and forth in a V- or W-shape Roller should be fully covered in paint, but NOT dripping
Step 6: Clean-up If we are not done painting: Brushes and rollers will be placed in saran wrap If we are done painting: – All brushes and rollers need to be rinsed with water until they are completely clean – Remove tape from walls – Remove floor covering
