Requirements Art 1 We highly recommend that students take multiple art classes before hand: to develop technique to build a body of work they can use in the portfolio to explore media and creativity to gain a basic understanding of art history that influences art to gain a basic knowledge of artists that influence art
What is AP Studio Art? For students who are serious about art Has a portfolio sent to the College Board Colleges give credit for a score of 3 or better typically A structured course that requires discipline on the student part Facilitated by the teacher 3 types of Studio art AP classes Our goal is for all students to submit a portfolio and have a passing score to be successful.
What are the benefits of AP Art? Facilitated Instruction with qualified teacher Opportunity for Artistic Growth Creation of an impressive body of work Development of their own style/content Sense of accomplishment College credit / class credit
What does one submit to the College Board instead of a test? A portfolio and a short response PORTFOLIO: Breadth Quality Concentration Pieces SHORT RESPONSE: What is your concentration? How do you show it? Note: AP may also include an upload day and /or a lock in
Scoring and Timeline September AP Commitment Letter November Lock In & Concentration exploration December approximately pieces should be done February/ March Pay, register for an account and upload begins Rework artwork and Draft Short response Last week of april Upload day/final photos taken First week of May Submit all digital and physical portfolio items After AP submittal Give back to the community Score: 1 – 5 Passing is typically a 3 or better
