Cooperative Enrichment Artist Workshop October 8, 2015

What is Cooperative Enrichment? TST BOCES Cooperative Enrichment consists of: Arts in Education, Environmental Education and Exploratory Enrichment, with a main objective to facilitate school-day opportunities for students and staff as well as curriculum development opportunities for educators. What is BOCES Aid? BOCES aid is a form of State aid which reimburses school districts for a percentage of the costs of services provided by BOCES. Districts pay for these services in a given school year and are reimbursed the following year. The amount of reimbursement is based on the district's State aid ratio.

Co-Ser 415, 416, 417 Arts in Education (416) focuses on supporting school-day opportunities for students in the area of the fine and performing arts. Environmental Education (417) focuses on supporting school-day opportunities for students in the areas of environmental appreciation and awareness, sustainability, and other environmental issues or problems. Exploratory Enrichment (415) focuses on supporting school-day opportunities for students in the areas of multicultural education, diversity education, and problem based and/or project based learning. This program also supports the TST BOCES Creative Writing Contest and All-County/NYSSMA music initiatives.

Exploratory Enrichment Clarifications Creative Writing Contest, STMEA, character development, inspirational speakers, etc. To receive NYS Aid, two or more schools must attend the same cultural agency, or hire the same vendor, during the same school year.

Arts-in-Education Clarifications Transportation, food and lodging cannot be run through the CoSer. If a trip is to a venue, such as Medieval Times, where dinner is included in the admission price, the cost of the food must be separated out. Only admission can be paid for. Only trips in the USA or Canada are allowed Professional development - Workshops are allowed - Conferences are allowed - Membership fees and dues are NOT allowed. Class trips cannot be run through the CoSer unless: - All students are attending; - Provisions are to be made for those students who cannot afford the cost of the trip; - Transportation, food and lodging are not being paid for through the CoSer; - There is a lesson plan on file showing how the trip relates to the arts; - The overarching principle is to differentiate between field trips that are fun but not educational versus field trips that have a connection to the arts curriculum; - In order for the activity to qualify for the Arts-in-Education Co-Ser, the transportation must be paid for by the district, not a parent or student group. No music competitions out of state. All art museums are allowed. Schools cannot make an illegal gift of public funds. In other words, there cannot be any material benefit to the student such as food, souvenirs, or gifts. If an art teacher is on the trip and has an arts lesson plan, the trip is acceptable. Student registration fees for music and art competitions and festivals are acceptable. Supplies and materials can only be funded in conjunction with a visiting artist.

Environmental Enrichment Clarifications Nature center programs, field trips to science museums, etc. To receive NYS Aid, two or more schools must attend the same cultural agency, or hire the same vendor, during the same school year.

Common Core Common Core Learning Standards The Common Core is a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy (ELA). These learning goals outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade. The standards were created to ensure that all students graduate from high school with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in college, career, and life, regardless of where they live. Forty-two states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) have voluntarily adopted and are moving forward with the Common Core. Full years of curricular materials are currently available on EngageNY for grades Kindergarten through 11th grade in Mathematics and Kindergarten through 11th grade in English Language Arts (ELA). NYSED is working with our partners to deliver high quality curricular materials for all remaining grades in both Mathematics and ELA. In Mathematics, full years of instruction will be available for all remaining grades this summer. Grade 12 materials will be available in both Mathematics and ELA in late spring 2015.curricular modules and units in P- 12 ELA and math
