CSE Senior Design I Superior Designs, Inc. Fall 2015 Approved Projects (for final delivery May 2016) Instructor: Mike O’Dell

P Important Notes About Projects  These are the only approved projects for this semester. No others will be added. red  The projects listed with titles in red are sponsored projects, representing real customer needs. These projects will be assigned, selected or not.  If a project is selected/assigned that shows the sponsor as “TBD,” a sponsor must be identified and named by the team within one week of project start.

P Panic Button  Develop a system to allow a “panic” call to specified phone numbers.  Application should run on desktop computer and/or be implemented as a separate programmable wireless device.  Button activation should also activate voice recording device and store recorded audio.  Must be able to activate panic call unobtrusively.  Sponsor: Dr. Alexandra Stefan

P On-Target Detection System  Develop a system to remotely score and report results of weapon test results  Approach might deploy acoustic/visual hit detection mechanisms to determine location of hit in target grid.  Sponsor: Thomas Moore, Orbital ATK

P Patient Monitoring System  Develop patient monitoring system that would allow tracking and reporting of patient vitals (BP, etc.)  Access database to project health issues  Interface with reporting system that is accessible by physicians to use in patient reviews/appointments  Joint project with IMSE  Sponsor: Dr. Paul Componation (IMSE Chairman, and UT Southwestern Medical Center

P Class Assistant Reporting System  Automate the tracking of hours, etc. of UTA College of Engineering undergraduate class assistants  Identify students via biometrics, photo, etc. and provide means to prevent fraudulent reporting  Generate timesheets with relevant information on each assistant  Implement as mobile app.  Sponsor: Dr. David J. Ewing, MAE Department

P Zoning Watchdog System  Provide residents the opportunity for equal representation in the zoning process.  Solution should effectively and efficiently notify residents of zoning change requests and enable and facilitate an organized community response from residents with similar support or concern.  Mobile application that notifies residents of pending zoning change requests and status.  Sponsor: Sogeti USA

P ???TBD  Project details to be defined.  Sponsor: Travis County Courts Note: we expect a project based on input from one of your classmates, but have not yet received sufficient information to publish the concept. If a concept is finalized by Thursday this project list will be updated. If not, the project will be deleted.

P 2016 IEEE Robotics Competition  Develop a robot and participate in IEEE Region 5 Student Robotics Competition  April-May timeframe in Kansas City, MO.  Requirements as specified by contest rules.  Successful project team will enter and participate in competition (and win )  Sponsor: Dr. Chris McMurrough/Matt Middleton

P Dental Tech Camera  Develop a head-mounted camera that "snaps on" to dental hygienist safety glasses  Would allow the hygienist to stream stills or videos to a tablet/pc/monitor to show the patient what they are seeing. Jac Justice, RDH (Stephen Ratcliff, DDS, on Davis and Tucker close to campus)  Potential Sponsor: Jac Justice, RDH (Stephen Ratcliff, DDS, on Davis and Tucker close to campus)

P Open Source ECG/Holter Monitor  Develop a mobile ECG system to allow patient monitoring  Integrate sensors, microcontrollers and monitoring application  See discussion at goes-open-source/ goes-open-source/  Potential Sponsor: UT Southwestern  possible synergy with Patient Monitoring System

P Vertical Farming  Develop a vertical farming (aeroponics) system.  Develop a chamber that allows variations of nutrients, light mixture, timing.  Develop an app to allow experimentation.  NASA is interested in aeroponics for space station food production.  Potential Sponsor: NASA?

P Virtual Drivers’ Training System  Develop a system that will provide drivers’ training using a VR headset (a driving “game”).  Integrate realism by using devices with a “cockpit” including steering wheel, accelerator, brake pedal, turn indicators, etc.  Provide a mechanism to score the student on various driving scenarios.  Sponsor: TBD (Local Drivers’ Education Company?)
