Agriculture Woodshop

Course Description Hands-on application of woodworking skills, tool identification, material selections, project layout, design and fabrication. Coursework consists of required projects aimed at principles of construction, joints, assembly, gluing, clamping and finish, as well as the design and construction of the student’s own project Covers basic hand and power tool, machine operations in a carpentry/ wood shop

Units Introduction to Shop Safety Focus on teaching student how to safely work in the shop Personal safety measures MSDS Hand and power tool safety Material & Tool Identification Hand and power tool ID Material selection Fastener selection Project Design and Layout Measurement systems Lessons will cover fractions, decimals, calculating board feet, square feet, & project costs Project layout to conserve material

Units Continued: Fastening Methods Wood joints Proper use of screws, nails, and glue Cutting and Shaping Methods To teach students the safe use of power and hand tools to allow them the ability to fabricate projects Measure and mark wood for cutting and drilling Project Fabrication Students will be taught the proper steps need to cut and assemble parts of a project Finishing Wood Students will taught techniques to finish their wood projects with sanding, staining, and painting
