*Read the speech and be prepared to answer the following questions!

 Tone: Anger  Could also be annoyed  Example: Disgusting, not to mention unsanitary. When immature students first began to throw wet paper towels on the ceiling of the girl’s bathroom…

 Yes there is commentary.  The author is commenting on specifics dealing with the topic as well as giving examples of how student’s feel.  “I don’t know why some students vandalize the bathrooms, but I know we all need to take a stand and get the soap back in all our bathrooms.”

 The school took the paper towels and the soap away  The reader knows this is supporting evidence because the author gives examples of what students were doing to vandalize and what the school did as a result.  The evidence supports what the author was telling the readers about consequences of vandalizing school bathrooms.

 Anger  “…a new type of vandal is responsible for all of us being punished, and putting our health at risk.  Sarcasm  “Then, some kids got the bright idea to pour the soap from the dispenser all over the floor.”  Caring  “Students who care about being clean need to take a stand and stop those vandals from encouraging the spread of disease throughout the school.  Disgust  “She developed an eye infection and had to see her doctor. He said germs on her hands could have contributed to the infection.”

 The school can not afford to have bathroom monitors at all times.  The school does encourage attendance and healthy lifestyles, but if students can not be mature about it they shouldn’t be allowed to have the luxury.  Students can bring their own hand sanitizer with them or use the sanitizer in their teachers classroom.

 The author’s point-of-view would be one of a student. They are upset with what is happening and is referring to the people who are vandalizing as classmates and other students. The author is also referring to the people who are taking away their privileges as administration, teachers, and the school in general which tells the reader they are not part of the group who is punishing them.
