Introduction Do you know what Solar Power is? Well if you don’t, just read all the information. After you see the slide-show about solar power, you will know a lot about it. You need to read and understand all the information because there is a quiz at the end. Good Luck! Slide 1

What is Solar Power? Solar Power is a type of energy which comes directly from the sun. This type of energy can affect the climate of the world. When we are using solar power we are using the sun’s power instead of making energy from other sources which can damage the environment. We use solar power to prevent global warming. Slide 2

Where Do We get Solar Power From? We get Solar Power from the sun. We do this to prevent wasting energy. Instead of wasting the earth’s energy we use the sun’s energy to produce power. This solar power can be used to produce electricity which can be used for heating and lighting. If you do not turn the lights off when we are going outside a room you are wasting energy. Slide 3

Why Solar Power is useful? Solar Power is useful because it stops us doing many frightening things to our planet. If we did not use solar power we would have to obtain our energy from other sources. The other ways of getting energy is from burning fossil fuels such as gas, oil and coal. Unfortunately these natural sources of fuel are being used up and we are running out of these precious fuels. Also burning these fuels causes heat and pollution which is burning a hole in the ozone layer. Solar Power is expensive to set up but cheap to run. Also because there is continuous sun, solar power cannot run out. Slide 4

What is Global Warming? Global Warming is a terrible act happening to the world. It is a man made situation but we can prevent it from getting worse. Global occurs when people burn too much gas and oil in their everyday life's. We waste a lot of energy by travelling in planes, leaving lights on when we leave a room, travelling by cars instead of walking. All these use up energy which causes pollution which can affect the ozone layer in the atmosphere. Once the ozone layer is damaged it leads to warming of the planet. This has the affect of causing the ice-caps in the Arctic to melt. This is called Global Warming and has damaging affects on our planet and all the animals, plants and humans that live on it. Slide 5

The Quiz!!! I hope you have paid attention to all the in information because it’s quiz time. Q1. What is Solar Power? A1. Solar Power is a type of energy. Q2. Where do we get Solar Power from? A2. We get Solar Power directly from the sun. Q3. Why is it so important? A3. Solar Power is so important because without it we would be in danger with the green house effect. Slide 6

Glossary Earth=A planet where all humans live on. Energy=Something that you need to make another thing work. Green house Effect= Is when the earth is warming up gradually due to pollution. Global Warming=A major thing happening to the Earth by the artic ice caps melting and flooding land. Solar Power= another type of energy we get from the sun. Sun=A hot planet which gives planet earth light and heat. Slide 7
