ACADEMIC VOCAB

ARCHETYPE A recurrent story pattern, character type, themes or symbol which is identifiable in a wide variety of works of literature.

It's something that's appeared in literature so often that it's very recognizable. LOVE CONQUERS ALL An archetypical plot structure is the infamous love triangle. THEME: SYMBOL

SYMBOLS: LIFE KNOWLEDGE

An archetype is the first real example or prototype of something (as the Model T is the prototype of the modern automobile). In this sense an archetype can be considered the ideal model, the supreme type or the perfect image of something

PURPOSE SHOW CONNECTIONS TO HUMAN EXPERIENCE ACROSS CULTURES AND TIME

POINT OF VIEW The narrator is the teller of the story.  first person—takes part in the story and uses the pronouns I, me, and we;  Second person - where the narrator tells the story to another character using the word 'you.' The author could be talking to the audience, which we could tell by the use of 'you,' 'you're,' or 'your.'  third person—an outside observer, who does not take part in the story; uses the pronouns he and she.

An omniscient third-person narrator can tell the reader about all the characters in a story—both their inner feelings and outward actions. On the other hand, a limited third- person narrator is limited to knowing the inner life of just one character but can still describe the words and actions of others.

1) DEFINITION – FROM BOOK 2) KEY WORDS THAT SHOULD BE HIGHLIGHTED 3) EXAMPLE 4) VIDEO / VISUAL / 5) FUNCTION/ PURPOSE – WHEN WOULD WE USE IT 6) WHY DO WE NEED TO LEARN THIS AS READERS? AS WRITERS? 7) RELATE IT TO SOMETHING ALREADY TAUGHT IN PREVIOUS YEARS 8) WAY TO REMEMBER 9) QUESTIONING / EXERCISE
