Lesson 8 Making Plans for the Future

What’s up? Nothing much. These phrases mean ‘How are you?’ and ‘I’m fine’. What are you up to this week? This phrase means ‘What are your plans’? Glossary

Things you do at work Have business lunch Have a meeting Take a colleague to the airport Pick up a colleague from the airport

Give a presentation Take part in a phone conference Meet the boss Attend an English lesson Things you do at work

Grammar -What are doing on Monday? - I’m having business lunch. -What are you up to on Monday? -I think I will meet my boss. - Are you doing anything at the weekend? -I’m not sure but I might pick up my colleague from the airport.

Present Continuous Is used to talk about fixed plans and arrangements. This means you know the time, place and people who are going to take part. + Subject + (am/is/are) + Verb+ing She is attending a lesson. - Subject + (am/is/are+NOT) + Verb+ing She isn’t attending a lesson ? (Am/is/are) + Subject + Verb+ing Is she attending a lesson?

Other future forms We can also use will after I think: I think I will have a phone conference. Will + Infinitive Or might to talk about plans we are not sure about: I might have a meeting with my colleagues. Might + Infinitive

Remember to pronounce the phrases correctly: Will/Won’t I think I’ll attend a lesson. I think I won’t give a presentation. Contracted ‘be’ I’m picking up a colleague from the airport. He’s taking part in a phone conference.
