Business Drivers  The lottery business is evolving.  The number of product lines is expanding.  Scratch tickets.  Numbers games.  Multi-state games.  VLTs.  AWPs.  Internet Games.  Casinos.

Business Drivers  Casinos are a microcosm.  They expand the number of product lines event further.  Table games.  Slot machines.  Bingo.  Poker.  Sports Book.  Race Book.

The Problem  How do you effectively communicate to the player across all of these product lines? Slots Bingo Race Book Lotto Games Lotto Games Multi-State Lotteries VLTs Internet Games Scratch Tickets Sports Book AWPs Poker Table Games

More Problems  How do you create brand identity across product lines?  How do you cross-sell products to the players?  How do you Identify players across product lines?  How do you track and reward players across product lines?  How do you manage central player accounts?  How do you communicate in a consistent manner with the player?

The Solution – at least part of it!  A unified framework for communicating with the player.  The Player User Interface (PUI).  Put the same content on:  VLTs.  AWPs.  Slots.  Internet.  Access multiple products:  Race.  Sports.  Lottery.  Food & Beverage.

Gaming Applications  Game Tutorials  Teach the player how to play the games.  Purchase Lottery Tickets  Let the player purchase tickets using funds on a VLT.  Access Lottery Results  Let the player redeem tickets directly to a VLT.  Access an Internet Gaming Site  Let the player access an internet gaming site.  Let the player transfer funds between the internet site and a VLT.

Customer Service Applications  Advertising  Display targeted advertising to players.  Self-Service F&B  Let players place their own food and drink orders.  Self-Service Reservations  Let the player make their own hotel and restaurant reservations.  Reservation Reminders  Remind players that they made a reservation!  View Live Events  Let players view live sports and entertainment.

Player Management Applications  Player Rewards  Show the player how much they’ve earned.  Let the player know when a prize has been awarded.  Central Player Accounts  Let the player view balances contained in central accounts.  Let players transfer funds between a central account and a VLT.  Mystery Prizes  Randomly award prizes to players.  Pay the award directly to a VLT.

The Parts & Pieces  EGMs / VLTs / AWPs  Something to run the PUI on.  Content  Something that the player can see, hear, and touch.  Use common development tools: Flash, HTML, javascript.  Develop it yourself or have someone else do it.  Application Server  Something to communicate with the content to deliver the application.  Lottery system, sports book, player management system, etc.  Media Display Manager  Something that manages the distribution and activation of the content.

The Protocols  G2S – Game To System  Communicate between VLTs, AWPs, EGMs and back-end systems.  S2S – System To System  Communicate amongst gaming and non-gaming systems.  MDI – Media Display Interface  Communicate between the gaming machine and the content.  Brought to you by the Gaming Standards Association!
