THE ROLE OF OHRD 1. Manage the ATS Pool Requisition 2. Evaluate application submissions 3. Update candidate status changes 4. Answer questions related to application process 5. Schedule writing assessments 6. Manage interview process 7. Communicate pool eligibility

APPLICATION CHECKLIST - AP 1. Update your MCPS Careers Profile 2. Apply to either AP Applicant Pool 3. Attach evidence of completed coursework— Admin I and OAT 1 4. Attach evidence of completion of Future Administrators’ Workshop (FAW) or refresher 5. Submit three recommendation forms OHRD Recommendation formOHRD Recommendation form 6. EXPERIENCE—AP AND ASA 5 Minimum 5 years successful teaching or counseling, PPW, or psychology experience ◦Minimum 1 year within MCPS 2 Minimum 2 years of leadership experience ◦School-based leadership experience ◦Assistant school administrator experience ◦Central services administrator/instructional specialist experience ◦Providing professional development to other teachers ◦Developing curriculum and programs

Observing and Analyzing Teacher (OAT) ◦Completion of OAT 1 January 15, ◦OAT certification is valid for 3 years. ◦OAT 1 recertification course is available for candidates who need to update their certificate.

Future Administrators’ Workshop (FAW)Requirements for AP Pool ◦If not currently an administrator, complete the full-length FAW before applying to AP Pool ◦If a current administrator, take a 1-day FAW refresher designed for your needs ◦Submit certificate showing completion of FAW or the refresher

RECOMMENDATION FORMS—AP/ASA Pools ◦At least one recommendation must be from current principal or supervisor ◦Minimum of 3 recommendations from principals and supervisors ◦Recommendation forms are available on the MCPS website

Required: 1-hour written assessment Writing prompts include typical AP scenarios Writing is evaluated on the following ◦Following directions ◦Problem-solving skills ◦Language, mechanics & tone Each written response will be scored by at least two independent scorers Minimum score of 20 is required WRITTEN ASSESSMENT – AP only

INTERVIEW—AP Only Once entry requirements are met (including a passing writing score), qualified candidates will be invited to an interview ◦Interviews will be conducted ◦Scoring rubric will be used during interview A satisfactory review from this panel will be the final step in the approval process

October 1, January 15, 2016 Application process begins October 1, Evidence of coursework completion and submitted recommendation forms are due by January 15, 2016 January 29, 2016 All written assessments must be completed by January 29, 2016 February 15, 2016 Interviews will be held the week of February 15, 2016 at OHRD at 45 W. Gude Drive March 21, 2016 Final List of AP/ASA Pool Candidates will be released to principals on March 21, 2016 TIMEFRAME FOR AP/ASA POOLS

If accepted into the AP/ASA Applicant Pool, you will receive written notification from OHRD of acceptance If selected into the AP/ASA Applicant Pool, you may: ◦Apply for advertised vacancies during Voluntary Transfer Season ◦If selected, interview with principals YOU’VE BEEN ACCEPTED!

If selected to fill an AP/ASA vacancy, selection must be approved by the Deputy Superintendent, School Support and Improvement If not selected to fill an AP/ASA vacancy, you will remain in the AP/ASA Applicant Pool for a term of (3) three years YOU’VE BEEN ACCEPTED! (CONTINUED)

You will be informed in writing by OHRD You may reapply the following year ◦Update your MCPS Careers Profile ◦Submit one updated reference from your current principal/supervisor IF YOU ARE NOT ACCEPTED...

Length of Tenure: 3 years ◦If not selected during the 3 year term, you must wait 1-year before reapplying and meet requirements again AP/ASA POOLS TENURE
