General Information The Savanna is a moderately warm area, that resorts Acacia and Baobab trees. They are used for many reasons, but the most commonly known is for food. Some animals that live in what are considered Savanna areas, are Wildebeest, Warthogs, Elephants, Zebras, and even Lions. The climates that circulate in the Savanna, are very prominent and distinct. There are short annual series of precipitation in the Savanna, that carries good rainfall, but for only a short time. Most of the time, the land is dry, and there is very little to no water around the vast plains. Picture of an Acacia tree.

Abiotic Factors One of the most important Abiotic factors in the Savanna is its soil. The soil is the foundation of all Plantae in the Savanna. A very scarce Abiotic Factor in the Savanna, as well as one of the most important, is water. Water is very hard to come by in the Savanna, seeing that the weather conditions are similar to that of a desert. The Abiotic Factor that isn’t as scarce, and is actually very vital to all life in the Savanna, is the feces of animals. It fertilizes the plants in the Savanna that feed animals of all kinds. An Abiotic Factor that is very useful in all of the animals as well as Plantae is the weather. The weather is what also helps the plants grow in the Savanna for animals to eat. A very small pond of water in the Savanna.

Dominant Plants The dominant plants in the Savanna are mostly of a tree like variety. One of the types that are most common are that of an Acacia tree, Baobab tree, Manketti tree, Bermuda grass, Beech nuts, common Guarri, and Wild melons. Most of the Plantae that aren’t trees are edible, and can cure some ailments that you may have. The Guarri plant is a black fruit that can be used for food, and that the bark around it can be used to cure headaches. Most of any other things are used for animal consumption, such as the Elephant grass, for Elephant food. This is Elephant grass. It is called that because it is literally the height of the elephants that roam in the Savanna.

Dominant Wildlife The animals of the Savanna are specified under the category of Predator and Prey. The most dominant animal of the Savanna is the Lion. Most other animals can be considered both predator and prey, but are all consumed by one higher animal of the food chain. The types of animals that are most commonly prey are those that are herbivores, such as Giraffes, Zebras, Elephants, and Baboons. These animals are hunted by predators, or most commonly known as carnivores. Some of these carnivores are the African wild dog, the Caracal, and the Nile Crocodile. This is an African Wild Dog. It is in the water, perhaps trying to cool off due to the intense heat.

Graph about the Savanna The graph listed is to show the amount of environmental problems in the Savanna, that are mostly caused by human activity.

Geographic Distribution The geographical distribution of the Savanna is most commonly described as what the Africas look like, but what the characteristics of the Savanna are, they are not only in Africa, but in many other places, due to the climate, weather, and animals in the region of which is proclaimed. The other areas that are known to be described as to having Savanna descriptions are Eastern Asia, South America, Central America, and Northern Australia. These are the areas that are known to be described as have Savanna-like climates.

Interesting Facts The Savanna is really just a lot of grass. Most of the grass is accompanied by trees, but the Savanna is mostly made up of lots of grass. You can imagine what the Savanna looks like, and what animals are in it, because the movie, “The Lion King” is set in a Savanna biome. The Savanna biome, in the African areas at least, is being guarded due to the fact that poachers, people who kill animals for their pelts, bones, and other things, are making the animals go extinct. The Savanna is one of the least watered biomes out of all biomes. In its wet season, it gets at least 59 inches of rain. (That’s not a lot.) The least warm temperature that has been recorded in the Savanna is 63 degrees Fahrenheit. That is during the annual wet season.

Questions 1: What are one of trees that are most common in the Savanna? Answer: Acacia, Baobab, etc. 2: What are one of the places a Savanna biome is located? Answer: Africa, Eastern Asia, Central America, etc. 3: Name an animal from the Savanna. Answer: Lions, African Wild Dogs, Zebras, etc. 4: Name a dominant plant in the Savanna. Answer: Elephant Grass, Baobab trees, Manketti trees, etc.
