AVU Assignment Main difference between Intermediate/Credit and National 5. Worth 25% of final mark, out of 20. Choose a topic, research it, write a report, learn it. Exam is March 2016 (1 hour). Some time spent doing it in school, but it should largely be a major homework piece. Starts after Prelims, approximately February.

Knowledge and Understanding questions Pupils are required to use the P.E.E structure. Pupils must revise thoroughly to prepare for these questions.

Source Questions These skills based questions, which can’t be ‘revised’. There are three types: Decision Making, Support & Oppose and Conclusions. They test pupils to lift information from sources and provide answers based solely on the data given. Account for 40% of final mark (26/60).

Study skills We learn: 10% of what we read 20% of what we hear 30% of what we see 50% of what we both hear and see 70% of what is discussed with others 80% of what we experience personally 95% of what we teach to someone else

Effective Study Techniques Study cards - pupils put question on one side and answer on the other. This helps them to revise specific examples. Where do Mexicans tend to settle in America? The South - sunbelt states Who goes to New York and Why? Puerto Ricans to work in the garment industry Where are the minute men based? Arizona
