 What we will study:  Modern and classic novels and plays  Poetry  Short stories  Reading, writing, analysis  Some literary theory  Film study/book comparison

 Emphasis is on skills – critical reading, writing, and analysis  What/how/why

 Thursday, May 8 a.m.  Must pass class and take exam to get weight added to g.p.a.  Weight = 1.0  Payment is due by February 1, 2011  See LCPS website for payment info

 55 multiple-choice questions  1 hour to complete multiple-choice  3 essays  2 hours to complete essays  One prose analysis essay  One poetry analysis essay  One open prompt

 Grades will come from:  Writing – approximately 55% of quarter grade  Quizzes  Oral presentations  Homework  Creative projects  Group assignments  participation

 Rubrics – always!  Essay rubrics primarily based on writing assessment from AP  Homework, class work, participation – see annotation rubric

 Reflects true A.P. exam  1 hour multiple-choice – last class day  2 hours to write 3 essays – during exam period

 First quarter – independent poetry study  Second quarter – independent prose study  Third quarter - Exam review – specific skill practice  Fourth quarter - Independent novel for film analysis

 Do their best  Keep up with reading  Advocate for themselves  Come to class with work completed, supplies on hand, ready to participate  No late homework  10% per DAY (not class) late penalty for papers and projects  Extra points for early papers and projects
