Walter Scott Walter Scott, a Scottish writer,was born in Edinburgh in 1771 in the family of a lawyer. Scott made himself famous as a poet and as the author of historical novels. His knowledge of history is remarkable. «Ivanhoe» (1819) set in the reign of Richard. IT is the best known of Scott's novels today.
