World War 1 The Canadian Battles – Passchendaele CHC2P / D Ms. Pannell

Passchendaele  Also known as the 3rd battle Ypres  An attempt to back Belgium sea ports from the Germans  Main attack was to go over the low laying areas – subject to flooding

Passchendaele  British Offensive, ordered by General Haig  Sent the Canadians in – hoping for similar success to that of Vimy  General Currie predicted it would cost us 16,000 men - didn’t think it was worth it!

Passchendaele  Artillery destroyed dams and cannels resulting in flooding and mud  “Creeping Barrage” failed – too much mud
