The purpose of our presentation is: to determine the role of learning languages to tell about English in general and its place in our life to consider a problem of learning languages, a problem of learning English. to suggest, what can help us by studying to understand, why we study English.

Learning Languages  The problem of learning languages is very important today.  Foreign languages are needed as the main and most efficient means of information exchange of the people of our planet.  Foreign languages are socially demanded especially at the present time of the progress in science and technology.

English language 1. Today English is the language of the world. 2. Over 350 million people speak it as a mother tongue. 3. The native speakers of English live in Great Britain, the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand. 4. English is one of the official languages in the Irish Republic, Canada, and the South African Republic.

The role of English  It is the major international language for communication in such areas as science, technology, business and mass entertainment.  English is one of the official languages of the United Nations Organization and other political organization.  It is the language of the literature, education, modern music, international tourism.

The problem of learning languages is especially urgent, because:  Learning a foreign language is not as easy thing.  It is a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience.  One must work hard to learn any foreign language.

When learning a foreign language you learn the culture and history of the native speakers.

The problem of learning English: 1. English is said to have one of the most difficult spelling systems in the world. 2. The written representation of English is not phonetically exact. 3. The present English vocabulary consists of more than 1 million words, including slang and dialect expressions and scientific and technical terms, many of which only came into use after the middle of the 20th century. 4. The English vocabulary is more extensive than that of any other language in the world.

What can help you to learn English: It is well known that reading books in the original, listening to the BBC news, communicating with the English-speaking people will help a lot.

However, to know English is absolutely necessary for every educated person, for every good specialist. THANK YOU!
