TRADITIONS of LATVIA Man’s journey on earth is seen to be the mirror image of the journey of creation, as it finds expression in the changing seasons of nature, and is accompanied by mythical songs - the dainas, by sacred symbols – zimes, – and by dance. In this dance cycle the themes of human life are connected through song, instrumental music and simple dance forms with the qualities that go into the making of a whole day – from morning to midnight, and a new dawn.
