MCW Cancer Center 2014 Scientific Retreat June 6, Board Meeting MCW Cancer Center Community Advisory Board May 21, 2015

Welcome! 2 Introductions Please Indicate if you are a new member / if you’ve joined since our last full meeting. JOSEPH J. ZILBER School of Public Health

Thank you! 3 Thank you to all Cancer Center Community Advisory Board (CC CAB) members. You have been so active and done so much to support the MCW Cancer Center and moving on projects that are important to the community.

Update on Committee Meetings & Progress 4 Communications & Dissemination Needs, Barriers and Gaps Education Navigators Socio-Economic Research / Research

CC CAB – Moving Forward 5 How does the CC CAB want to move forward? Let’s discuss some ideas shared by members or board co-chairs and then hear suggestions from all board members

Suggested Strategy & Approach for the CC CAB: 6

CC CAB – Moving Forward 7 Suggestion: – Full CC CAB is a true, high level advisory board, meeting quarterly to provide input on the needs of the community, review existing and new projects, and task the Cancer Center with specific areas of focus and action – In addition, a sub-set of the CC CAB would be a self-selected work group made up of those who want more tactical involvement in specific projects and logistics, or who are current partners. Perhaps similar to how the Needs, Barriers & Gaps committee has worked over the last six months.

CC CAB – Moving Forward 8 Suggestion: Each quarterly meeting should include posters or presentations of cancer research at MCW and partner institutions

CC CAB – Moving Forward 9 Suggestion: At quarterly meetings, CC CAB members ID key cancer issues or topics – Academic members and staff prepare a white paper, poster or presentation on these topics for the next CC CAB meeting – After these presentations, full CC CAB would suggest actions and research projects to address this topic or issue

Next Steps 10 Define the mission and strategy of the CC CAB Schedule a CC CAB Business Meeting? Process, rules of order, member nominations and appointments, length of service, etc.

Discussion & Other Next Steps 11
