Comparative and Superlative Adjectives

There are 5 basic rules to form the comparatives and superlatives.

1.one syllable adjectives “–er than” and “ the –est. “ fast faster than the fastest

2. If the adjectives ends in a single consonant after a single vowel the consonant is doubled before adding –er and –est.  Fat fatter than the fattest

3.Adjectives of two syllables which end in –y add -er and –est. Most other two-syllable adjectives take more and most.  Happyhappier than the happiest She is the happiest girl under the sun.

4.Adjectives of more than two syllables take more and most.  Beautiful more beautiful than the most beautiful  Famousmore famous thanthe most famous She is the most beautiful girl in the competition. I think Madonna is the most famous singer in the world.
