Matthew’s Biography of Jesus: Organized around 5 discourses Organized around particular themes

First 1/3 of the First Century Jesus did good works (culminating with his work on the cross) and taught the disciples about the kingdom. Third 1/3 of the First Century False teachers tried to dis- establish the churches. Apostles wrote Gospels (biographies) to stabilize churches and maintain the movement. Second 1/3 of the First Century Apostles led a movement based on a house church network and wrote letters to establish churches.

Matthew’s Biography of Jesus: Matthew is characterized by five “kerygmatic” discourses about what the kingdom of God is really like.
