TITLE: Personal Transformation TEXT: John 13:1-16 THEME: A healthy community is huddled around the holy presence of God.

“What does it mean to be transformed into whole people in the presence of others?”

“How does personal transformation take place in a community, in the presence of others ?”

I. The Circle of Condemnation:

A. The circle of condemnation is a social space where your flaws are noticed, picked apart, and pointed out by other people.

I. The Circle of Condemnation: A. The circle of condemnation is a social space where your flaws are noticed, picked apart, and pointed out by other people. – Other people in the circle point out your flaws and weaknesses, not to help you out but to shame you, harass you, or try to change your behavior, try to get you to conform.

II. Circle of Affirmation A. In the circle of affirmation, you are loved and appreciated for who you are B. Underneath the kindness, virtue, and patience there is despair. C. Both fail in trying to provide for a need for human fulfillment.

III. Circle of Transformation (John 13) A. The circle of transformation is created when Jesus invades our lives and we huddle around the living God.

John 13:3 "Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and he had come from God, and he was going back to God, rose from supper."

III. Circle of Transformation (John 13) A. The circle of transformation is created when Jesus invades our lives and we huddle around the living God. – Jesus was an embodiment of the holiness of God.

III. Circle of Transformation (John 13) A. The circle of transformation is created when Jesus invades our lives and we huddle around the living God. B. Jesus created circle of transformation by showing them what the character of God looks like.

John 13:6 Peter to Jesus: "Jesus, you're not going to wash my feet! Not you, you’re not going to wash my feet!” (Rough Paraphrase: That's not how it works. It's not going to be this upside down situation.)

John 13:7 Jesus responds: "What I'm doing now you do not understand, but you will understand."

John 13:7 Jesus responds: "Unless I wash you, you have no share with me."

III. Circle of Transformation (John 13) A. The circle of transformation is created when Jesus invades our lives and we huddle around the living God. B. Jesus created circle of transformation by showing them what the character of God looks like. C. At cross of Jesus we see that He has become our sin and washes us.

At the cross of Jesus we see our sin for what it really is.

Our anger goes so much deeper than we think it does.

At the cross of Jesus we see our sin for what it really is. Our anger goes so much deeper than we think it does. Our lust goes so much deeper than we think it does.

At the cross of Jesus we see our sin for what it really is. Our anger goes so much deeper than we think it does. Our lust goes so much deeper than we think it does. Our bitterness and lack of forgiveness towards others goes so much deeper than we think it does.

At the cross of Jesus we see our sin for what it really is. Our anger goes so much deeper than we think it does. Our lust goes so much deeper than we think it does. Our bitterness and lack of forgiveness towards others goes so much deeper than we think it does. Our pride and need to be recognized by other people goes so much deeper than we think it does.

Jesus says "I want to wash you, but in the process of washing you, it's going to come out!"

John 13:8 Jesus says: "Unless I wash you, you have no share in me,"

John 13:9 Pete responds: "Well if you don't wash me wash everything wash my head wash my body and everything else."
