Unit 12 Circulatory & Lymph 1. ARTERY VEIN CAPILLARY ARTERIES- carry blood Away from heart clean oxygenated blood except for Pulmonary Artery VEINS-
Assessing Heart Rate & Blood Pressure. Your pulse represents arterial palpation of the heartbeat using your fingertips. The pulse may be palpated in any.

Blood Pressure. What is the lub dub sound your heart makes?
Heart Actions Cardiac Cycle: One complete heartbeat. The contraction of a heart chamber is called systole and the relaxation of a chamber is called diastole.
The cardiac cycle Pressure and volume changes and associated valve movements during the cardiac cycle. Describing the sequence of events in one heart beat.

Pulse Sound Activity. Heartbeat Each heartbeat is called a cardiac cycle: two atria contract then two ventricles contract (systole), and the entire heart.
The Circulatory System of Humans What is that ‘lub dub, lub, dub’ noise in my chest? The noise is the sound of your heart as it pumps blood.

Review  Path of Blood Path of Blood. Heart Actions: Pulse  Pulse is the rhythmic throbbing felt in an artery as a result of the beating of the heart.
CHAPTER 3 – CIRCULATION Lesson 2 – A Closer Look at Blood Vessels.
The Heartbeat Cardiac cycle = contractions and relaxations of heart muscles in a complete heartbeat Takes ~0.8 s.
The Circulatory System
What Is Blood Pressure? Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the arteries. Blood is carried to all parts of your body in vessels called.
Vital signs. Types Temperature Pulse Respirations Blood pressure (Degree of pain)
Blood Pressure The measurement of the force of blood against artery walls when the heart contracts or relaxes.
The Heart and Blood Vessels. Lesson objectives By the end of this lesson you should be able to explain: Why there is a requirement for circulatory systems.

HEART FACTS. Your heart beats about 100,000 times in one day and about 35 million times in a year. During an average lifetime, the human heart will beat.

MRS. LUFF 7 TH GRADE LIFE SCIENCE MEASUREMENTS OF CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

HEARTBEAT “LUB-DUB" sound made by the closing of the valves of the heart. LUB - tricuspid/bicuspid DUB – two semilunar ONE BEAT = ONE LUB-DUB

Increase Rate Decreased Rate Activity Caffeine Smaller body size (bird) Less physically fit Less activity (resting) Larger body size (horse) More physically fit HEARTBEAT

PULSE caused by the regular stretching and relaxing of the arteries when the blood spurts through them. PULSE RATE = HEARTBEAT RATE

Pulse Points Are felt wherever the arteries are close to the skin.  Wrist  Temples  Armpits  Ankles  Inside thigh  neck

BLOOD PRESSURE As the heart beats, the blood surges against the artery walls. A measure of this force is called blood pressure. Blood pressure is not a constant pressure. The pressure is great when the ventricles are pushes on the blood; thepressure is less when the ventricles are relaxed. 3. NORMAL BLOOD PRESSURE = 115/80 4. HYPERTENSION - high blood pressure
