Course Guide ADHD Angel Crouch, an ADHD Specialist, presents an overview of ADHD, its symptoms, treatment and the way it impacts on the social, emotional and educational development of the child. The course will also explore various management techniques and look at identifying triggers in behaviour. 7 th October 20146pm-9pm 14 th January 20156pm-9pm Venue: St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre, Autism: An Introduction Provided by John Mortlock in partnership with Fair Play Barnet, attendees will gain sufficient insight into Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) to enable them to understand the underlying causes of social, communications and behavioural difficulties. They will be able to differentiate between behaviours that arise because of the individual’s personality/life experience and those that are directly due to ASD. Attendees will be aware of the vital need for consistency in their practice and the vulnerability of people with ASD to unplanned and casual forms of communication 12 th July am – 4pm Venue: Carey Room. He focuses on issues of emotional imbalance, self control and social inhibition. Participants will gain an insight into behavioural communication and why children and young people come to rely on that and the easy ways in which to assess the behaviour to decide if it is automatic or considered, and internally or externally driven. 7 th Oct am – 4pm Venue: Carey Room. Epilepsy Lesley Haigh, Community Matron for Special Needs, provides this course designed for people working and living with children and young people with Epilepsy, to enable them to gain knowledge and a general understanding of Epilepsy and status epilepticus. The course will include facts about epilepsy, the causes and triggers of seizures, classification of epileptic seizures, recognising and managing seizures with dignity, Epilepsy in individuals with learning difficulties and other physical disabilities and training in the administration of Rectal Diazepam and Buccal Midazolam (certificated). St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre Down Syndrome Sandra Redman, a parent of a child with Down syndrome, presents a great insight into working with children with Down syndrome, explaining their need of visual timetables and use of Makaton. She explores the signs and symptoms, speech and hearing impairments and auditory memory in children with Down syndrome and also highlights the visual impairments, physical difficulties and behavioural problems that are often present. 10 th November 20146pm-9pm Venue: Conference Room. The course starts with an introductory session describing key features of relevant legislation and the impact of current legislation on workplace policies and procedures, and the role and responsibilities of support playworkers in safeguarding children and young people. 19 th Jul am-1.30pm Venue: Trinity Church Hall, 15 Nether Street, N12 7NN 6 th Mar am – 2pm Venue: Training room 1North London Business Park, Oakleigh Road South N11 1NP Teambuilding and Inclusive Play Maurice Hines and Kay O’Brien from Oyster Training present this course that provides learners with a catalogue of inclusive games and ideas to support after school clubs and playschemes in becoming accessible to ALL children and young people. The course is interactive and fun and also covers the Playwork Principles, the medical and social models of disability and how to challenge exclusion in play settings. 4 th July pm Venue: Trinity Church, Carey Room 15 Nether Street,N12 7NN Paediatric First Aid Provided by Andrea Woolley of AETP training, the course covers the curriculum required by Ofsted. It requires no previous knowledge of first aid. Those taking part will learn how to treat sudden illness or injury in any infant or child. Infant and child manikins enable participants to put their theoretical skills into practice and get a feel for what it is like to give cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to little people. Training will be to October 2010 Resuscitation Council Guidelines. 26 th /27 th Nov 20149am-3pm Venue: North London Business Park, Oakleigh Road South N11 1NP
