Presentation transcript:

Romans 5:1-10 1Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a

righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”

we shall be saved by His life

Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."

Saved from what?

Matthew 1:21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."

Romans 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

Reconciliation Propitiation Redemption

Reconciliation “to change, exchange” hence of persons, “to change from enmity to friendship, to reconcile” With regard to the relationship between God and man, this is what God accomplishes, exercising His grace towards sinful man on the ground of the death of Christ. Romans 5:11 “And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.”

James 4:4 – “…therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” Col. 1:19-21 – “For it pleased the Father that… by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, ….having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled.” Rom. 8:7 – “…the carnal mind is enmity against God…”

Romans 6:21-22 (New King James Version) What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

Propitiation Was used among the Greeks with the significance “to make the gods propitious, ‘to appease’, in as much as their good will was not conceived as their natural attitude, but something to be earned first. It is God who is “propitiated” by the vindication of His holy and righteous character, whereby, through the provision He has made in the vicarious sacrifice of Christ, He has so dealt with sin that He can show mercy to the believing sinner in the removal of his guilt and the remission of his sins. appeased

Rock of Ages “In my hand no price I bring, Simply to Thy cross I cling”

Romans 3:25 - “…whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed…’ 1 Jn. 2:2 – “…He Himself is the propitiation for our sins…” 1 Jn. 4:10 – “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

Redemption Titus 2:14 - “…who gave Himself for us to redeem us…“ 1 Pet. 1:18 – “…knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold….but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.” “to buy; to buy out; to buy up for oneself; especially of a slave with a view to his freedom; to obtain the release of by paying a certain price; to release on receipt of ransom”

“we shall be saved by His life” Death Reconciliation Propitiation Redemption Life Blood But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.”

Hebrews 7:22-25 ”…so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant. The former priests….existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing, but Jesus….because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
